Theodor W. Adorno: Philosopher, Musicologist, and Critical Theorist

Member of the Frankfurt School of philosophy, Theodor W. Adorno was recognized by the Institute of Social Research in the same city as an eminent thinker before deciding, in 1928, to leave Nazi Germany and move to the United States. He returned to Frankfurt only in 1958, when he assumed the role of Director of the same Institute.

A musicologist, philosopher, and composer, he wrote numerous essays, among the most well-known are “Philosophy of Modern Music” and “Dialectic of Enlightenment.”

Among his most famous quotes are:

“Bourgeois society is ruled by equivalence. It makes the dissimilar comparable by reducing it to abstract quantities. To the enlightenment, that which does not reduce to numbers, and ultimately to the one, becomes illusion.”

“Wrong life cannot be lived rightly.”

“The power of the culture industry’s ideology is such that conformity has replaced consciousness.”

Massimo Usai https://urbanmoodmagazine.com

After more than 25 years spent between London, Warsaw, and Brussels—three cities that taught me everything except how to resist a good coffee—I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with international outlets such as The New York Times, Time Out London, and Vancouver News.
Today, I’m the Director of Urban Mood Magazine and the Editor behind Longevitimes.com, where I explore stories at the intersection of culture, photography, and longevity.
I love blending images and words to turn every piece into a small journey—authentic, original, and occasionally a little mischievous.
In recent years, I’ve been diving deep into the world of Sardinia’s Blue Zone, developing expertise in longevity, traditions, and the science behind living better (and longer).
And yes—I’m also an Arsenal supporter. Nobody’s perfect. / To contact me massimousai@mac.com
