By Patrizia Riello Pera, Padua, Italy (writer, illustrator, and blogger)
The journey of an eclectic author navigating publishers, self-publishing, prestigious nominations, and a string of national and international literary awards. My literary path began early—back in 1987 as a writer, and later, in 2014, as a comic artist. Born in 1969 in Padua, I nurtured a deep passion for writing since childhood. I still remember receiving an award for my Italian language skills in 1981–1982, a first sign of the road I would follow. My work is eclectic, ranging from short stories and novels to comics and poetry—a kaleidoscope of genres that truly reflects who I am. After working with several publishers, I embraced self-publishing, a choice that granted me new creative freedom. Recent years have been particularly intense. In 2024, I self-published François Iperattivo and François Hyperactive. My poetry collection Magiche Poesie was nominated for the Premio Strega Poesia, while my narrative work Le fiabe del villaggio was proposed for the Premio Campiello. I also contributed to the anthology Autori Contemporanei Edithon by WRN Radio and reissued 2080. Antimateria. In 2025, I plan to release several new self-published titles on Amazon, including Le indagini dell’Ispettore Creighton, Lo scambio, Amati e odiati, Atto primo, and François, una risata in arrivo. My career is adorned with recognitions that fill me with pride. In 2025 alone, I was awarded the prestigious Golden Lion for Culture and Literature at the Menotti Art Festival Spoleto and Quotidiano La Notte. I also received an Academic Excellence Mention for my poem Amore in negativo at the G. Belli – F. Lami International Literary Excellence Competition, organized by the Tiberina Academy. Other awards include the European Oscar Wilde Prize and fourth place in painting at the 2025 Minerva International Art Prize MAECA. I will also serve as a delegate at the 2025 Panorama International Literature Festival. I’ve had the honor of receiving several honorary degrees from the Universum Academy Switzerland/International University of Peace in Literature, Graphic Arts, IT, and Foreign Languages and Literatures, as well as the title of Honorary Academic. I am an Associate Academic of the Tiberina Academy of Rome and a Meritorious Academic of the Ferdinandea Academy of Catania. Beyond paper and ink, I’m a regular guest on Radio Brasil Som FM and actively maintain my blog at https://patriziarielloperalibri.it/blog/. I’ve participated in major events such as the Turin International Book Fair and the Frankfurt Buchmesse, and taken part in numerous international book tours in cities like Cremona and Livorno, and countries such as Austria, Hungary, Romania, France, and Spain. My nomination for the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature, along with proposals for the Campiello and Strega Prizes, mark significant milestones in my literary commitment and passion. Dear readers, From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your affection and daily support. It is an immense joy to know that my stories, poems, and comics accompany and move you. Knowing you’re there, page after page, discovering the worlds I create, is what keeps this wonderful writing journey alive.
Your presence is the most precious gift a writer could wish for. Thank you, truly.
